God's World - Faith Based on Fact (2)
Genesis Chapter 2:4– 2:25
Last month we looked at an overview of God’s creative work This second chapter of Genesis deals with God’s undertaking for man, His ultimate creative act
As we
saw in Genesis chapter 1, each of God’s creative steps paved the way for the next, Day 3 the waters & land were parted & vegetation established, on Day 4 the seasons were defined
and on Day 5 the sea & sky were stocked with fish & bird life.
On Day 6 when God created animal & human life, the world was ready to receive them, season, food chain &
habitat all in place (Gen2:4-7)
We continue on to look at the relationship that God is establishing with Adam, a habitat carefully & specially
prepared for him, covering a vast area, containing many precious minerals & stones, the vegetation was selectively prepared by God to provide for food, shelter & pleasant environment
to live in. This place is often referred to as “The Garden Of Eden”
What is described as the Garden of Eden was located in what is modern day Iraq and sadly there is no
resemblance left of what God created, human greed, war, and neglect have reduced so much of this area to barren desert and rubble. (Gen2:8-14)
Man - Adam,
alone with God, alone with the creator to enjoy a Spiritual interaction that we in our humanity can not even come close to imagining yet even here God was mindful of man’s needs… Employment,
gainful and meaningful - to tend and keep the garden Accountability – free to eat fruit of every tree except the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Companionship – God
brought to Adam all the animals, Adam named them but no suitable companion was found. (Vs 15-20)
God again created but this time it was from what He had
already made. God took a rib out of Adam and from this rib he fashioned a wife, companion, partner. Humanity, man and woman now complete, in full spiritual harmony with God, totally
innocent, naked & unashamed. (Vs 21-25)
God the creator has begun a journey with man, the creation.
Ideal, perfection, literally heaven on
earth.
How could anybody mess up so perfect an arrangement?
